City of London Walks

Welcome to the Barry Oneoff home page.

The old WhizwrinklyHello to you and thanks for visiting the site. My name’s Barry, and I’m based in Bethnal Green, the heart of London’s east end (England). If you’re interested in the Cockneys, the East End kids of the 1950’s or the history of The City of London and how it came to be the capital city of England, then this is the site to bookmark.
That’s me, the old Whizwrinkly in the photo. Too old to be a whiz-kid, too stubborn to stop trying. The name Oneoff? Well it’s nothing to do with what you’re thinking! It came about because I used to design and print individual greetings cards for people. Now it’s one-off logos, shirts, and the odd web site. I am now a fully qualified City of London tour guide so you can have a one-off City walk too!
There is plenty more on the site, including the history of Saint George and some of my views on why we should celebrate England’s patron saint on April 23rd. and make us proud to be English. There are also a few other bits and pieces on the site that you may find interesting. Have a look below for more details of what’s available.

England’s Glory

The City of London

Cockneys and the East end

3 LionsAre you a patriot? Do you feel gagged by political correctness? Being classed as racist for trying to be patriotic?
Or just want some information about the patron saint of England? This is the place to go then. There is also a full list of our Kings and Queens, as well as some of my personal views.

City of London CorporationThis page began as a brief history of the original “Square Mile” from Roman times onward, but as my interest grew, so did the content. My interest grew so much that in 2008 I joined a City University course to become an official City of London tour guide, and passed the exams in 2009 Go to City of London >>

Ere, ‘ave a butchers at this, geezer. (Butchers hook - Look). You can pick up a bit of cockney rhyming slang, learn about today’s changing East End or see what we got up to as mischievous kids in Bethnal Green during the 1950’s. If you’re not old enough to remember the 50’s then have a look anyway, it might surprise you.
If you are old enough to remember, then it may bring back a few nostalgic memories.

The Victorians

East London Forum

About the author

Queen VictoriaThis was the last section to be added to the site, and was inevitable really. It leads off from both the East end, and the City pages to give a small insight into the great Victorian age. The vast gap between classes, caused by one thing only; money! The Victorians were also good at sweeping things under the carpet to prevent feeling guilty.

East London ForumI added the forum in May 2003 in the hope that local people and ex patriots could get together for a chat online. It is now popular with many people, including those tracing their family’s east end roots. Membership was slow to take off, but as well as the natives we now have members from all over the world. We are always looking for new additions so why not have a look?

Taken yesterdayFor anyone who wants to know a little more about me, the old Whizwrinkly, there’s a page dedicated to me. After all, I designed, researched, took the photos and put the site together, I must be entitled to a mention (modest as I am). Just a brief look at who I am. Feel free to skip it if you wish.

One-off Samples

Your Feedback

Go to BooTshirtsThe original purpose of this web site was to show off some of the 'one off' designs for greetings and Saint George's Day cards I was producing at the time. They got left by the wayside as the site grew into a larger project. Most people are now capable of turning out their own cards, so I now concentrate more on designing and printing T-shirts, and if the opportunity arises, web sites, logos and banner design. You can see a few samples on this page or go to the relevant sites for more details.

Your comments and feedback are important to me. Not just words of encouragement either, your criticisms help me know what you would like to see changed or added to the web site. I doubt very much that you will change my opinions on certain things in the text, but I will be happy to make changes to the subject matter or the appearance. Contact me >>
